Ai Si Xi, the innkeeper who firmly believes in staying single, finds herself embroiled in an absurd lawsuit that labels her as a "single exemplar" targeted by the authorities. Grateful for her past kindness, Jing Kan is compelled to marry Ai Si Xi to help her out of her predicament.
Initially thinking they could go their separate ways after marriage, the "little couple" instead get caught up in the power struggles of the Jing family, a prominent local tea-producing household.
